For podcasters, budgets are tight. Money is saved by recording “DIY” or outsourcing to an affordable podcast production company. The added expense of transcribing a podcast is a tough sell. But we believe this is short-sighted. In fact, transcribing your podcast is the single most important part of podcasting. Here’s why.
All major search engines look for text when they crawl your podcast page. They use this text, mining keywords, to rank your podcast in their results pages. If there is no text, you will simply not show up in their results. If there is a little text, like a title and show notes, you may end up in their results, but it will be so far down the listing that no one will even notice you.
Post this keyword data mine to the same page as your podcast. Google will see all of these wonderful keywords and your podcast will go flying up to the top of their results pages. Without text, those with hearing disabilities will not be able to “listen” to your podcast. By posting the text alongside your audio, these individuals will have full access to the information in your podcast.
Yes, you can share the podcast itself, but it is much more user-friendly to copy and paste relevant text along with the audio. Your listeners will post your podcast more often, making it easier to go viral around the world. Everyone is looking for a fast and affordable transcription service, but how about quality? Is that just as important? We believe that accuracy should be the number one goal of any podcast transcription service, and that’s exactly what we deliver.

It is common among podcasters to use machines or automated software to transcribe their podcasts. The vast majority site cost as an overwhelming factor in their decision.
It is an everyday practice for podcasters to post automated transcripts alongside their cherished podcast. These transcripts are full of misspellings, incorrect grammar and bad punctuation, leading the reader to wonder what type of company they are listening to. Transcripts done by human hands, but originating outside the United States, are hardly any better.

Podcast transcription seems to be on every podcaster’s mind recently. It’s especially apparent that it makes your podcast accessible to all even those who don’t listen or know what a podcast is. Some people prefer reading to listening and learn better that way. It’s also helpful to transcribe your podcast if you’re making detailed show notes.
It’d also be interesting to hear what the bigger podcasters are doing in terms of transcription and show notes. You can actually use Google Docs to transcribe anything you say. It’s pretty accurate and free. I made a video about how you’d use Google Docs as a free podcast transcription service here.
They are blindingly accurate! I’ve been using Sonix for a while and one of the things I really like is that they offer a native podcast player widget for your website too. The pricing is very competitive and the widget allows users to jump to a place or word in your podcast by a text search.

Thanks so much, Mike! I’ve been using Otter. ai for a while now and I like it enough. The AI is still lacking (not all words come out properly but this can be edited in real-time). However, it’s very useful for podcasting because you can designate separate speakers, which is really helpful when I’m creating transcripts for clients with interview podcasts.

Podcasts are more popular than ever. More than half of the United States has listened to one – and there are plenty to choose from. With over 700,000 shows and 229 million episodes available to listen to, there’s no shortage of content for your ears. There are plenty of benefits to podcasting, too.
A trip to the gym or going for a run is a lot less painful when your audience has a fun podcast to listen to. And with a podcast playing, people will actually look forward to activities like doing dishes or folding laundry. However, you can’t just record your podcast, hit publish, and expect people to flock to your show.
When it comes to podcasting, a high-quality and reliable podcast transcription service is an absolute must. Audio transcriptions of your episodes have a wide range of uses that, as a podcaster, you may have never even considered. If you’re going to go through the trouble of starting your own podcast, you want people to listen to it, right? Simply uploading the audio file to your website isn’t doing it the justice it deserves.
You can also take excerpts from the recording and use them for marketing materials across your social media channels, email newsletters, and other publishing platforms besides your blog. Remember, your podcast is just one part of your overall marketing strategy. You want to drive people to it, but you can do that in a number of ways.
Would you want them to miss out on your useful content? Or would you rather engage them in another way by transcribing your episodes? Those aren’t the only people who can benefit from your podcast being transcribed into text. Here are a few other folks you should keep in mind – and yes, they’re a part of your audience, no matter how niche your content is: Hearing loss affects 48 million people in the United States.
15 percent of children between 6 and 19 years old have some form of hearing loss; 14 percent of adults 45-64 also suffer from it. That percentage increases the older your listeners become – 2 in 3 adults over the age of 75 experience hearing loss. Even if people that don’t experience hearing loss, they may have Auditory Processing Disorder (APD).
About five percent of children experience APD; the disorder can continue into adulthood. Podcast transcripts help people 👂 and boost SEO! Being able to follow a podcast with a text transcript can benefit people who have these hearing problems. They can really digest the information being spoken at a pace that works for them.
